Islander Mothership Kayak Trip Report 06/03-06/05

Loaded 22 kayaks on the Let's Talk Hookup/ Shimano/ Fast Lane Kayak sponsored trip. Arrived at first light yesterday to find Pyramid blown out. Moved to lee side of the island and put kayaks in the water. Fished a 4 to 5 mile stretch as the Islander moved down. Many caught small yellowtail on trolled sardine, coltsnipers, and flatfalls. I fished shallow for calicos and caught and released 9 fish to 6-7 lbs. using an orange and brown waxwing. Wind came up around noon so loaded all the kayaks and made a 6 mile move. After lunch, back out for afternoon session. More of the same, mostly small yellows and checkerboards. Jackpot was a 10 lb. halibut caught in 90 ft. of water on a dropper loop sardine. Everyone finished by 6:00 PM. Shimano had 2 reps. on board that brought many Shimano rods, reels, and jigs to use. Gave away a Torium 16 HG, Tackle Bag, Teramar rod. Everyone was also given a Shimano goodie bag. Jackpot winner received a pair of Maui Jim sunglasses from Let's Talk Hooku.. Would have preferred to fish from Pyramid to China Point but weather didn't allow. Islander crew did another outstanding job as usual and Geezer killed it in the galley! bosco
