Love for the Yellow
Wow, what a trip that was. We left Wednesday at about noon and got into San Diego about 7pm.
We battled the amazing 405, coming back as we hit LA area got really bad, but we had something in the cooler so Happy... We found some dinner and picked up a sandwich for the water the next day, as we planned on making it a long day if needed. Well it was not, We launched at 6:10 with just enough light to see ankle crushing waves. Peddled out of the MLPA > > > Started making bait, plenty of Spanish mackerel but not what I wanted to use, I wanted the greenbacks, which we ended up found boiling a little deeper. Start fishing. Within 15 minutes Kurt starts screaming which Kurt never screams. I look over and he is smiling ear to ear with a bent rod. I peddle over and see tons of huge marks and already have a Mac swimming down deep and dropped the Iron which is what he was hooked up with, next think I knew my bait rod was going off, But at this point my Iron line is wrapped in his line with a fish on. I start getting pulled one way trying to stay close to not make the tangle worse and get Kurt to land his first yellowtail. Kurt Bent We end up getting pulled separate ways and I run into a issue. It was a seal issue. I hate seals. Where was the great white when I needed it right. Either way I battled my yellowtail and about 30ft down just getting color and it happens my line rockets to the surface. OHH CRAP. I see a Seal pop up 20-30ft in front of me with MY Yellowtail in its mouth. The great thing, I have mirage power and hauled my butt over to the fish and seal and it kept attacking and I kept battling. This thing was relentless. I did not want to loose this fish after such a long drive. I battled and battled and came out ahead of this seal, with little to no damage to the meat of my yellowtail. Group shot of Kurt and I and the first fish of the day. The day continues and I get one more chance at a fish and this time no seals mess with me. Perfect Circle hook placement. The catch, Kurts fish on the right, the two I got on the right. Huge thanks to the anglers that helped us get out there and get on some fish. You know who you are.
