Newport, 6-10-14

Saw a familiar looking car pull into the lot, it was tamddo714. Nice guy. After a quick chat I launched at 6am with Landwhale to cloudy cool skies. Water was very clear, quite a bit of dead eel grass floating around, and a cool 65º. Wind was pretty much dead, though it did pick up a bit later.

We both got into the fish pretty quickly (typical 1/2hr post sunrise), but it died just as quick. Then it was just a pick all morning. Steve struggled for a while, then he stole my mojo and he was getting them and I wasn't. Anyways, I finished w/14 bass and a short butt. 5 of the bass were legal spots and 4 of those were males, ready to spawn. Quite the miltfest with each.

Bait was really simple for me today. I used quite a few colors and styles, but only a 5" Zman Padlerz in New Penny caught fish. At one point I gave up on finding a bait that would produce more or better (all but on of the shorts were very short) and just stuck to the New Penny. Had it on a 3/8oz Owner Ultra Head with Hot Sauce for flavor.

Pretty fun day today with lots of traffic, both boats and yaks. At least for a Tuesday. Looking forward to whatever next week will bring.
