Hit the launch at 0530, expecting to see a crowd... There was only two of us, and another kayaker I saw later. I brought out the Mariner this morning, so I can't tell you the temp. Cloudy skies, waves 1ft, water vis. 5-10, and wind out of the Northwest. Paddled out into the fog, which later burned off. Didn't bother making bait, I just tossed and yo-yoed. At about 0630 the birds start working. At about 0800, my buddy has one on the deck. He calls me over, and we work this spot. See one bird above me that later drops down... and sure enough, yellowtail puddle underneath... He hooks up two more times, but lost both. When he lost his last one, I hook up... It was the right kind, and felt like a NICE SIZED one. It's pulling drag, I fight it for a while.... Then, POP!! Two sand bass for me (released), and one lost yellowtail... And, I'm still crying over here!!! Ohwell, that's fishing.. Fish were picked up mid column, on the iron.
Landed at 1030, small waves, high tide and wind picked up a bit. Good luck manana! Nice fishing with you, Brett. -D |
