I made bait at the pier and promptly donated one to a shark. Off to the kelp I went, but I got distracted by the birds out west... two miles later I was in the middle of an all out slaughter... macs killing anchovies. I was hopeful that the next predator in the chain would show up, but it was looking dim as the birds started to scatter around 12:30. I started to make my way back in, I had pretty much given up when my fly line took a slow, short run. Odd. I picked it up and it started to run... huge bait, so let it chew... in gear, fish on! Definitely a yellowtail, felt pretty good too. Looked huge at first color and then it bolted straight down. Sweet! Too bad first color was very deceptive as the fish was only 13lbs, 12oz on the beach. Made my day. Thanks for the pic, Dave. Lunch time! |
