Newport 6/2

Decided to go out of newport this morning to try for some sheephead. Got out to the kelp around 7 am, the wind was blowing pretty good and it was a bit choppy, this made the trip already a bit harder. Didn't have much trouble finding the right kind, but i couldn't get the right size.

Trying not to leave with an empty cooler, I decided to go with plan B which was get some rockfish. This ended up being extremely difficult with the chop and wind, my drifts were very fast. However, my rod did manage to load up and I happened to have double hooked some decent reds. Got another one a little while after and called it a day around 1030. Conditions could have been a lot better but I would still say that it was a good day to be fishing.

I used shrimp in the kelp and for the cod I was using a 6" Basstrix Trixter and grub on the bottom.

The Fish Count:
Kelp- 1 small calico 3 short sheephead 1 perch
Shelf- 1 starry rockfish (released) 3 vermillion rockfish
