Classic Fall Kayak Fishing - 10/7
A kayaker this weekend reminded me that I haven't posted in awhile, but,
I have been getting out for some of the usual shenanigans this Fall. My girls had a birthday party to attend on Sunday, so with the great weather, I jumped at the chance to put the wheels under the Hobie and get outside the surf zone for some more fresh air. I launched Sunday from Big Rock area and headed out a couple miles to my "Taco Time" reef area. The bait schools and action seemed to be a little shallower though, with lots of bait marks 110-117' and seals/birds feeding which is always a great sign. Lately I have run across some great Ling, Sheephead, Bocaccio (release most), and Red action out there. These fish will feed wildly for a period, then, just shut off completely. Rigs used are a combination of heavy bucktails, plastic, or 6 oz dropper loop style with live bait or squid on a very large circle hook. I had a few drag-ripper fish break off my 30 lb leader by getting into the rocks. (Unfortunately, my waterproof Canon camera finally died last month, so it's 'camera phone' pix for right now ... that camera shot all of my older videos located here: http://s4.photobucket.com/albums/y11...hing%20Videos/ ) Yesterday's 13 lb sheephead and 5 lb vermillion. Both were kayak "Personal Bests" for me! Friday Night bugs:
