Cinco de Mayo AM
Surf was real fun yesterday morning. I launched around 5am and thought I had just timed it really well because I didn't even get splashed... then the dark wall of water started to form up and broke on top of me, soaking me from head to toe. That's the closest I've ever come to not making it out from the shores. Luckily, the rest of the waves for that set didn't break quite as far out as the first. Anyway, I went straight out and trolled a sabiki (thanks for the tip, Andy) and found one greenie and three spanish pretty quickly. I flylined the greenie and put a few ounces on one of the spanish. At about 6:30 the greenie gets hammered, and after a minute of getting towed towards the kelp, I started to fear that I wasn't going to be able to stop whatever this was so I tightened the drag some. A minute later I was directly over it, winching it up without any problem. I started to think it was a big WSB, but it turned out to be a decent yellowtail. long and skinny - 25lb 9oz, 43.5" |
