Halibut fishing 3/6,7,8
I had a chance to fish for butts over the past couple of days and made the most of it. The weather was outstanding on Tuesday but the bite was a bit slow. I worked hard and managed a few shorts and one legal that was released. Headed back on Wednesday to light winds, clouds and some rain. The rain (more mist) quickly disappeared and the winds picked up. Worked many of the areas for nothing until high tide turned. Then I found a large concentration of minibutts and two barely legals. Both fish were released after posing for their photos. I couldn't help but think that all those minibutts were males there looking for a large female to go home with. So, I headed back out today with girls on my mind. My first stop was were I left all those males. I picked up three shorts in about an hour but decide to try a nearby area. Good call because I picked the right kind on my second pass. The fight started off like a leopard -a long run out and up and then change directions. However, she soon sank down and played tug-o-war with me for 15 minutes. After a long heartpumping battle I finaly brought her to gaff. 44" and 33lbs As always, I brought the fish to show the kids at school. This is almost as much fun as catching them.
