LJ Saturday need company

I am planning on launching at La Jolla Saturday and since this will be my first time I do not wish to go alone. I would probably arrive at the La Playa Launch site around 6 a.m. unless somebody has a better suggestion. I have noticed lately that some have caught some 34 inch Halibut and some good sized Yellow Tails (30#) and was wondering how to rig.
My gear is not the best, but should suffice:
Penn Jigmaster on 6.6 Ugly Stick (medium action), new 30# mono
Cheap spin combo (Silstar ET60) on 8 ft Shimano 80MHB2 (30# mono)

I was planning to use the conventional rig to go deep with a home made wire halibut rig on sliding sinker with whole squid. Keep the spin combo for either throwing plastics, yo-yo a Sala iron, or use sliding snell on squid rig but was wondering if I should use weight (Carolina) on that also, or fly line it? I would be bringing my own squid from Asian Market, but am not opposed to making bait with Sabiki (also a first for me). I will leave bait tank at home, but will have a 3 inch bait tube.

Any suggestions/advise greatly appreciated as are definitely any RSPV’s.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH

JAMES
