More Knot Wars

I went to Day at the Docks today and stumbled across the Izorline Booth proudly displaying their knot machine.

The lure was just too strong I couldn't resist the temptation to tie a knot.
-After checking out the scores (97 lb.) at the time - I tie a fishable SD style knot that broke at 99 lbs. for a high score.

Then I immediately tied another variation of the SD style knot for a 100.5 lb.
It remained that way all day until JL from Squidco tied a monster knot that broke at 102 lb.
Another guy tied a 100.5 lb.
and one more guy was able to score a 102 lbs.
So the four of us were in the finals.
------------------------------------------------------
2:30 was the cut off and we each had to come back and tie our best knot.

I guess they wanted to have the finalists tie their knots with line from the same section of the spool, as the line strength and diameter will vary throughout the spool.

-The first guy ties a 71 lbs. and it snaps in his knot.
-I tie my knot which breaks at 90.0 lbs., but it snaps in the Izorline not my knot.
-JL from Squidco had some difficulties and his knot broke at 26 lbs.
(sometimes shit happens)
-Then the final guy ties his knot which broke at 90.5 lbs. inside his knot.

SOB - I felt a little ripped off that the Izorline broke and not my knot, but thats how it goes sometimes.

So I get 2nd. Place and a Friends of Rollo T-Shirt.
The Winner gets a free trip on a 1 1/2 Day Boat.

Heres a pic of my knot, notice the 3 tag ends on the left side and the 1" piece of mainline where it broke.
Still not bad for 60 lb. test line.

Nice! I was listening to Lets Talk Hook Up today and the guy who landed that 400 lb tuna also used a SD Knot.... Gotta look that one up.

At least you know you can win next year! 90lbs is a pretty impressive knot with 60# line, it'll give you more confidence for when you're out on the water :P

Thanks Jim, its an addicting fishing sub-sport.

tunaseeker - everyone should use a SD, Uni, or Irwin in some form or another IMO.
They don't break easily, even when tied in the single line configuration and can remain small enough to draw a bite from picky fish.

Kev - thats a special SD, not your average double SD. Its hard to tell in the pic, but there is a secret hot sauce in there and its lubricated with Porter before the draw.
-I don't remember which boat it was, but I had already said I would donate it back to The Izor guys for more Rollo's benefit. I need some good karma right now - my fishing arm is out of service for awhile.

swank - I might have a chance of winning, but there are additional factors to consider in line variation and diameter throughout the spool.
-Technique is definitely the #1 factor, you have to tie these knots with great care. Line strength will vary throughout the spool, so you need some luck too.
