depending where you launch...I launch at ocean and slow troll to the lb wall. it takes about 1-2 hours depending on speed and route and other factors. the wall holds a lot of fish but hard to fish. you'll lose alot of hardware if you don't fish it right or unlucky. you'll need a good current so you can have a long and slow drift along the wall. cast as close to the wall as possible...and slow/fast retrieve. weedless head and your go to pastic for calicos will do the job. wanna catch perch?...bring strip squid and reverse dropper loop at the begginning of the wall.

If you paddle out from the cabrillo side of the harbor you can hug the jetty to avoid the west winds. my best day inside that side of the harbor was 6 cudas 10-12 bonito and 20+ calicos. it can get fishy!

I was gonna attempt it from ocean blvd. Didnt think it was that far of a paddle. Cabrillo side must get a lot of pressure compared to the other end? |

I usually launch from the Claremont boat launch and park on the street. From there it's a 2 mile paddle straight to the breakwater. I paddle a stealth 12 and it's taken me about 45mins one way. The good part is that if you get tired you can fish Chaffee on the way out...and the way back.
Good luck! |

Replying from my phone. If anyone kayaks tomorrow in LB, there is a race. Be aware of traffic. I was in cabrillo today...4 short halibut for me.
