definitely the heddon "eye" paint job. kinda phased out with the skirt tail buzzbait invented .collectors item wouldnt use it due to having to jerk the crap out of it to get the blades going .

Pretty funny If I had to guess I'd say it's a Luhr Jenson woodchopper, but an early all wood version, before the changed the eye, in Sunshine Perch. The newer ones have a recessed eye, and are actually popular for Peacock bass. There are hundreds of variations of these, but they are all essentually knockoffs of a Smithwick Devilhorse. The Original Smithwicks were released in something like 1950, and probably hundreds of various copies were made with slightly differen't configurations. The wooodchopper is different because it's got large aluminum props rather then the more streamlined chromed propellers the were used by Heddon and Smithwick. Those large props make kind of a clacking noise in the water, so it's a noisier bait. Jim |

Dug up some pics at the Luhr Jenson site...
Woodchoppers come in various lengths and configurations but this one is pretty close. A newer version with the same blade setup.. Here's the sunshine perch pattern... I was kinda just guessing earlier but I think that's probably it... Jim Last edited by Fiskadoro; 03-28-2011 at 09:38 AM. |

Good call Jim it looks like you are the winner.
Here's a question? Are these effective in that Salt? I know they can be great in freshwater but was wondering about the salt.
