The pipe/HB Reefs

Anyone recommend close launch spots to the pipe in newport beach or the reefs around huntington beach area, would prefer an area to launch that has a decently forgiving surf, pm if you want to use discretion. Thanks~

Best spot that I have looked at, but yet to go would be launching between Newport pier and the little jetty, this is where the dorry fleet is set up for a reason. Down side is metered parking

I also like the looks of launching at the river mouth near the power plant, I think city beach, $10, paddle straight out to the reefs.

If you keep an eye on the surf you will find some small days especially in spring and early summer. I would wait for a small day and lauch at the river. During the summer the surf near the Newport Pier is usually flat because it does not pick up the south swell. The lifeguards will put up a black ball flag for no surfing so you may not be able to land there if it is black balled.
