Block of foam...where to find?
I say soft because I'm not looking for Styrofoam but rather the stuff that is usually black. I think its the same stuff that gun cases have inside to keep the gun from moving around. Thanks |

There's a place in National City called UFO, they may have it.
http://ufofabrics.com/UFOPages/ufo_foam.html It's not black but it's foam.

how big of piece are you looking for? if it is a reasonable size, you could check with computer shops. sometimes when they get new equipment it is packed with it.
it just depends on what you need it for and how big of a piece you may need. |

Most likely what you are looking for is called open cell foam. It isn’t cheap. It is the kind of foam that is used for sound reinforcement. Try E-bay and Craigslist. Search open cell foam, egg crate foam and soundproofing foam. Every once in a while you will find some. All depends on how thick you want it too. The thicker it is the more $$$$$ you will be spending
To give you an idea of how much you can spend, if you get it retail, to spot treat my 10 x 10 studio it cost around $400, and that’s with a bulk pack. I have found it usually goes for around $3 a square foot when you buy it in large quantities. You may want to try the craft stores too.

A better type of foam is a closed cell variety called EVA, (ethyl vinyl acetate). This is the stuff that flip flop sandals are made from. I sell it from my web site in a tile format for use in gyms, playrooms etc.
High shipping costs and minimum order sizes probably make it impractical to order small quantities from me but if you search locally for EVA you may have some luck. If you have questions, PM me. Bob |

Thanks again guys..I think I found some and it is rather expensive. What about the blue stuff I've seen some of you carve out to fit a transducer? Where can I find that?
It's actually for a school project I'm working on with my 13 year old daughter. |

Hit up a swap meet in your area and buy a used Boogie Board. If thats the type of foam you are looking for.

if you want to use the blue stuff for a transducer you can always buy those pool noodles for a few bucks and cut off part of the end. i have also seen some big cyclical foam in the exercise equipment section at target on sale. it is for some type of yoga or palettes thing.

I have some white closed cell "plastic" foam that is 2" THK but 8.5" x 12". LMK if you want it and we'll figure out how to get it to you. I'm in Huntington Beach.

Some military suplus type places carry it. Oxmans in La Mirada had that type of stuff, but they may be closed for renovations
