Ok, so you guys have Jaws on your side of the pond... and we don't get sharks in the UK, right ? Well we do get a few smaller sharks, which can be a bit of a handful in the kayak - especially when you try to share the kayak with one...

Looks like a split grip rod to me, but with FUJI turbo guides??

Its a solid carbon Fladen Maxximus rod with fuji concept braid eyes (I don't like the eyes - they have a habit of cracking).

that is a great video, and yes it does look like you have done that before, IMO, I don't think my huevos are large enough to bring it on board....

I would be lying if I said I wasn't nervous ! But it was my first shark in the kayak, and I had waited a long time to catch that fish. So I was determined to get it on board and get some video/pictures.

It did take a rather large chunk out of my rod handle (battle scars !) and a small chunk out of my dry suit 0- but the crown jewels are safe !

I probably would release alongside the yak next time - but I have to say, that it was a blast !

Thats what I thought, and given that he called it Tope its probably very similar. I believe our is new common name for soupfin shark is actually Tope... although its not commonly used yet.

Great vid and fish Dizzy. I hope you got your shark video out of the way and will just cut the next shark off at yak side. Tope are the atlantic name for what we call soupfins. For me tope/soupies are right on the line between sorta anoying ground sharks, smooth hound, leopards, and real sharks, mako, threshers, blues. Maybe tending to the real shark catagory. They have a large mouth and smaller but very sharp teeth. I'm have been very respectful of the handful I have caught. Mike
