Bill Poole Memorial Angling Tournament
As a long time kayak angler and a multi-trip fisherman on the Excel, I encourage everyone to get on board and support the Bill Poole Memorial Angling Tournament this weekend July 10-11. https://www.bill-poole-tournament.com/
The second annual Hubbs-SeaWorld Research Institute (HSWRI) Benefit Tournament was recently renamed the Bill Poole Memorial Angling Tournament to honor legendary long-range fishing pioneer and sportsman Bill Poole. This year’s contest will be held Saturday, July 10 with a gala awards barbeque and fundraiser the following day. Proceeds from the contest go to furthering HSWRI’s white seabass stock enhancement program, the largest in the world. Since 1983, HSWRI has released more than 1.4 million juvenile white seabass back into the ocean. Those who don’t choose to fish may still purchase tickets to attend the Awards Barbeque Banquet and Raffle/Auction on Sunday July 11 beginning at 11:30 a.m. The banquet—held at HSWRI’s lovely bayside headquarters—will feature live SeaWorld animals, guided tours of HSWRI’s hatchery and breeding programs, and a deluxe raffle/auction sponsored by some of recreational fishing industry’s top personalities and manufacturers. All net proceeds from this event benefit HSWRI, a 501(c)-(3) non-profit organization and world leader in white seabass stock enhancement.
When I moved off the fish board and onto a kayak back in 1995, a friend of mine caught a 45 lb WSB. We convinced him to get it mounted, that it was a fish of a lifetime and he would never see one that big again. Well, with the gill net ban and the work that Hubbs has done, we all have seen what has happened to the WSB stock. This was really evident the last few weeks with the off the chart seabass fishing experienced by many. This is a chance for us to support HSWRI, whose work has helped provide many us our fish of a life time. Even if you can not fish, you can make a tax deductible donation.
