May WSB and April Yellowtail
Oh yeah, here is a video from my previous outing in April. These are my first and second yellowtail using a jigstick, thanks to Josh. I might as well be blind – I’m nearsighted in one eye, far sighted in the other without any depth perception, so I couldn’t see the school of fish that was practically in front of me until it was pointed out to me. He can teach a blind and deaf to fish. About a minute after hooking up, I got into a tug of war with a seal. I had to yank the yellowtail out of the seal’s mouth then reel like crazy and bounce it as the seal was chasing it. Jay |

Nice fish(es). The video looks great.
What kind of camera did you use for the underwater shots? Great piece!

Glad you all enjoyed the video. I can't wait to make another one, hopefully I won't have to wait months.
Dave, of the two underwater videos, the nicer one was taken with GoPro HD Hero. I also used Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS1 for some of the other videos. |

Thanks for the info Jay. I have a GoPro HD Hero that I've taken out a couple
of times, but murky water and no decent catch made for a boring video. LOL. The shot from the other kayak of your YT at the side of your yak made for a great sequence. Water clarity was nice. Red tide has killed that for this week... Again, nice job on both the fish and the video.

Too much fun, Jay!
Catching that first surface-iron Yellowtail is a special moment. It's hard to describe the mix of emotions involved. Everything from that peace inside we feel while simply soaking up the solitude a kayak provides. To that adrenaline when you see your target swimming in the distance. Then make that controlled cast, followed by almost getting pulled out of your seat!
I can only speak for myself, but these are the times when I feel, well, alive! Breaking in that new jig-stick properly with drag ripping Adrenaline, fear of loss to the ever present Sea lion---it's all there and then some. Then to share your day of success in Hi Def---It just doesn't get much better, Jay. I'm sorry I missed your second Yellowtail with the camera (I thought I hit record ). Ya' know, the one that almost pulled you out of your seat a few times? For a one day shoot, though--- that video is nothing short of epic! Let me know when you're ready to shoot the sequel.
