Fork me!!

Late launch at 10:30 into a stiff south wind which was worse around the corner. White caps and very bumpy. I'm thinking what the heck am I doing out here? Up hill current, lots of floating stuff on the inside. Check out my bass spots for 1 Calico. Looking outside I see some terns pecking around and go investigate. Had some deep bait marks in 65' and made 4 quick spanish. It's about 12:30 and the wind lays down nicely. Make it out to the terns in 110' out northwest, put out a spanish who was nervous from the get go. Get picked up and let it eat it a long time. Put it gear and the circle hook comes tight. Oh what a feeling. Doesn't feel like the white kind and after a few nice runs I see the beautiful yellow fork. 20lbs on the digital. Worked the area for a while longer then dragged a spanish back to the buoy for no more takers. Ken, Adi and Brad were on the way out when I hit the beach about 3:15. Hope you all are doing the happy paddle tonight.
Ken, thanks for photo. Kelvin

Fork me too

Launched at 1pm. made large mac bait and fly lined 2 out. 1hr later right off the hotel i'm picked up. weighed in at 26 lbs. yea ken you were right on guessing the weight. Arne, I think you guessed 24 lbs?. Not bad guys. I guess after catching these guys enough you get good at guessing. Lamb was way off at a guess of 18 lbs... good to be out there. Still have not caught the elusive WSB. Are they still around?. Iv'e never posted a picture here before. can someone help me out here?. [/img]

Nice catch. I was out early saw one sardine noodling on the surface. Tossed the jig 5 cranks I am on, reeled hard to set and gets real heavy but still coming toward me and then nothing. Fire off another 10 cranks oooyea, then same story. Worked the area hard for nothing. Been thinking about it hard all day? Glad to hear you found them.

Nice job Stevo and Kelvin - I guess all the catching was being done between 1:00 and 1:30 by you two. Those were some big shouldered yellows. I think those short, fat ones are the hardest to gauge wieghts on.

Great to get out for a pm paddle, grab a brat otw from Brad, and see some friendly faces ... and a nice warm breeze that really laid down. I had one monster Calico eat a big greenie in the spot. Nothing else going on ... seemed like every bird pile we chased ended up being a dog slapping a fish around.

Looking forward to another pm shift, but I don't think I'm down with the dark landings ... yet.

Hey, I think I did throw a disclaimer that I have a tendency of overestimating the weight my own fish for 10lbs, and underestimate everyone else’s…

Besides, I have not seen or caught YT in so long – good thing I could ID the fish.

Nice job you two.

05/19/06 A.M.

No love on the exotics this morning. Had one bait get picked up and bit off.
Most likely big barracuda. Fished Calicos and got 13 for 3 of us.

Hey Kelvin, you did good -- as usual. When I saw you on the beach I had just come in on my skiff, smelling of skunk. The ocean was was getting lumpy so your launch had to be a bit difficult; but it certainly paid off! Can I take some of your YT credit for filling-up that bull sea lion that hounded me all morning? LOL
