LJ 5/14...keeping up with the Jones'

Nice calm flat morning was looking to be a bust. Fished some structure spots with the solo lamb thinking maybe a flattie could save the morning. Just a short ling. One greenie gets wacked up high and comes back with the tell tale pinpricks. Stayed in the area and started throwing iron, copied from Ken. First cast gets to the bottom and immediately loads up. I'm on. Not the right kind. Turned out to be a bat ray hooked in the wing. Pretty much ready to pack it in and rest up for a PM run. Throw the iron a little more when suddenly it gets real heavy. WTF, I'm not near any kelp. Holy crap, it's a fish. Out away from trouble I keep the drag soft and let it go. Feeling good about things till I hear a "phfttt" as the big dog sticks his head up a ways away. Fortunately, I don't think he saw me but I still stuck my rod tip in the water so he couldn't see the bent rod. Tightened up the drag and figured it was time to go for it. Horsed up the fish and at color see the nice white glimmer. Didn't quite grab my gaff properly so I ended up smacking it a couple of times before finally getting it stuck. Upper 30's.

Sweet Brad!! It sounds like I took off 10 mins too early.

Uneventful morning for me. Covered lots of grounds for one short barrie. There's always manjana.

Nice job Brad. Those dogs are reaching a new level of annoyance. On Friday I lost a fish to the kelp that I would have most likely gotten if not for a couple of dogs popping their head up next to the yak after hooking up. Again, great job on that fish.

Got it officially weighed. 38.1 lb. Don't think it's a contender but at least it's a fish. Fat female, full of roe but an empty belly. Seemed to me to have a higher fat content than previous ones. Almost felt like a YT while I was cutting, now my hands are nice and soft from all the oils.

Nice one Brad. I saw Matt and Pat getting ready to launch when I left.
Hope the wind lays down for them, and I hope they have a good report!

Nice Dave, 22 lbs!! Those pics I sent you are 6 megapixels, so they may exceed your max upload on that hosting site, you need to resize them to 640 x 480 pixels.

Brad, you know you have caught too many when you can compare the fat content of the multiple WSB you have caught . Nice work.
