my version....

All you can want sardines greenies and spanish at the buoy at 6AM

At the point where you can just see the west face of the hotel, the sardines that were everywhere today get really bothered, so I sit and soak amongst the popping bait...soon, my low rig goes off, easy fight on heavy gear, up comes a big ling, like Santa Rosa Island big. As I'm trying to set him free, my flyline greenie takes OFF, definately the right speed!! I give it a long run before engaging, and thunk....dull sound of hook coming out of the bait, didn't even load the rod :x

Then, as soon as the ling is off the hook, and i'm rebaited, 40 strokes out of casting distance, 10 birds circle around and about 5-10 yellows start feeding on the surface, I rush to the spot, but by the time i get there, game over......A few minutes later, I hear some guys in a six pac 400 yards off screaming like little girls, but a minute later, they were all groaning and swearing----heartbreaker

Spent the rest of the morning milling about that area soaking bait and throwing iron. Saw one happy camper on the beach with the nicest bycatch I've ever seen!

thanx andy!

Decided I'd try my luck with the sharks, and only brought 2 50lb outfits and a few rapalas...Figured if some yellows popped up they'd eat the plugs too...paddled forever and I was still only about 3.5 miles off the point (thanx to my slow ass yak) turned around and headed back to where there was actually some life (lots of bait poppin on the way out) Andy and I were kinda just hangin out waitin for some current and we saw some bait come up with a dog on it.. I said to andy.." I think I saw a boil just left of that sealion" and started paddling for it...trolled over that spot and I'm on... short fight later seabastion was sittin on my lap.. went 35-4 on the beach..

Nice fish Ryan!! WSB on the plug. Good goin'

You're nuts though. Five miles from the point, six from the pier, that La Jolla buoy area is one very very long ass paddle, each way, but I'm getting in better pedalling shape and will be doing it again Thursday AM.

Nice shot with the Avet for the BD contest, you got my rockfish beat ....
