Shorten AHI Sabiki Rod

Does anybody know how to shorten an AHI sabiki rod? I'm thinking about just cutting it with a hack saw, but looks like the diameter of the rod tapers and may not fit correctly if I shorten it. Please help.

Thanks.

You can read my reply where you posted on BT, if no one else here has done that.

Thanks Grego.

I ended up cutting about 2 feet off the top piece and created a shim with the leftover piece. I stopped using this setup a long time ago. I'm taking out my newbie brother next week and wanted to setup something for him. I hope it works.

we do that here in the shop with all the sabiki sticks. if you have any questions, we can give you some pointers on making it perfect.

Some pictures. I'm thinking about gluing the shim to the top piece. What do you guys think?

Trob,

When you say you quit using this setup a long time ago, are you refering to the original Ahi stick, the conversion, or something else?

Thanks,
Brian

OK, I'll ask the question. Why would you want to shorten a sabiki rod? I just got one and have not used it yet. I did rig mine up and had to shorten the lure rig to fit. Am I missing something?

Did you buy it from OEX? We Pre-Shorten the rods. Standard lengths are 7' and 8'

I have a standard AHI 8' sabiki rod and it's cumbersome to use on a kayak because it's too long. I stopped using it because I prefer to use a regular rod and learned how to avoid those sharp hooks.

My sabiki rod is made by Proline not Ahi. It is about 7' long which seems about right to me. What is the ideal length for this kind of rod?
