Trolling motors?
I just started rethinking about this because I was fishing yesterday at DP and saw this guy using a trolling motor to get around, he could get to the areas that took me a 1/2 hour to get to in just a few minutes. |

" Is that anti-kayak? " I would say yes. A kayak is powered by a person and not a motor. If a motor on a kayak works for you that's great. It's all about you. I don't think you will get much help here. We don't use motors.
" Do you think the Harbor Patrol would ticket you? " You can bet on it. |

Use this
k2rick,
Use this link http://www.martialartsacademy.org/quietmanfish.htm and go to electric kayak. John Roe (Quietman) has all kinds of information for beginning kayakers or potential motoryakkers. We've used motors before, but our preference is paddling. The motors are in storage.

I've used a trolling motor for two+ years when I launch from Dana Pt. and truly enjoy being able to control my spread of lures. If I launch from a beach through the waves in San Clemente or LJ I use a paddle. You don't want to even chance flipping with the extra weight and yes it adds a lot of weight. Is it anti kayak, absolutely, but it's still a kayak. I end up paddling back anyway after the battery dies from 6+ hours of trolling which makes for a double workout. I've met with the DP harbor patrol and your more likely going to be harrassed by State Park Rangers or the Coast Guard reserve guys on their jet ski's. Also, don't go inside the swim buoys when you have your motor on board, another potential violation. The registration is less than a case of beer. You also need a heavy duty cart as most can't handle the extra weight and you'll need the strength to carry it all as it triples your overall weight and along with having a kayak that can handle the load.
