8/16 AM

Another quiet gray morning for me. Went north and got the usual nice bait at the pier. Ball bounced and flylined up about 2 miles. One big bat ray that got my heart racing but that was it. Saw ye old sightcaster with a fish in his lap. Old reel I was bouncing on had 50lb power pro spectra, and it separated on me while trying to pull out of a not-to-bad snag. Now I remember why I quit using that stuff (power pro, not spectra). I'm thinking of taking up gardening.

Amusement of the day: marked a bunch of activity on the bottom in 60ft around the canyon finger. Big iron doing nothing, so I dropped the sabiki. Brought up a 2 inch bocaccio (or maybe rockfish, tough to tell). Would have probably made good lizard fish bait.

My foolish, yet well-laid plans for catching halibut were foiled by large swirls in the distance. Paddled over and had three cracks at 'em with the megabait. Finally konked one on the head and he bit back. Went a bit over 24#.

Good seeing you out there Brad and thanks for the pics Todd. I tried hailing you on the radio 'cuz the tails were swirling around the whole time I was reeling this one in. Guess nobody uses those things any more - or mine just doesn't work right. Once I got him on board they sunk out and I didn't see them again.

Good luck out there.

Keep it going

Way to go, Arne, on another nice fish. You seem to be getting 1 really good one a week. Nothing wrong with that, and it keeps us coming back to try again.

Nelz, see you at first light at the pier or northwards thereof.

You realize this all but guarantees a red hot bite by the kelp :P .

Thanks A&J - right place at the right time.

Brad - that's the idea; first time I chased them up Scripps Canyon from 170 feet and out. Yesterday they were sitting in 55 feet of water. Nelz should have a good view from his perch. Good luck.

Consistency, Ken? Consistency is catching 9 $@$#%* YT in a week and half - with a WSB mixed in. I believe that's Konsistency. 8) As soon as the pm bite turns on again I'm sure you and Mr. Ice will be lapping me.

And Dennis - good to see you're alive - welcome back!
And good luck out there.
