INTRO: New to kayak fishing in SoCal

Hello all!

Picked up an Old Town Sportsman PDL120 recently to try kayak fishing out for the first time. I've fished the Eastern Sierra's all my life and a few halfday trips out of Newport over my 65 year lifetime. Now that I'm retiring I should have more time to enjoy this hobby that puts some tasty food on the table.

Hoping to gain some knowledge, tips and tricks from everyone here for fishing out of a pedal kayak in both the ocean and fresh water lakes. Also interested in
good, locations to start that have easy access for launching and possibly camping with my Roof Top Tent for weekend outings.

Just wanted to introduce myself to start.

Cheers!

Congratulations on your new PDL120 Kayak and commencement of Retirement!

Kayak fishing forums are not as popular as they were 15 years ago. But there are a few on here who might vicariously like your reports. It never hurts to ask questions. It is a little slow on here, but it is still a good source of information if you read back through old posts.

Welcome to the forum Quigs!

Cheers

Thanks for the welcome and heads up. Will read through posts as time allows before I get started next spring (recovering from knee surgery right now). Grabbed a Yakima Easy Rider trailer on BF special to install my Roof Top Tent on and tote this beast on camping trips. My trailer hitch extender does the trick for local day outings. It's always a bit intimidating being the "knob" in a new sport. Hopefully I will pick up the basics and certainly safety tips quickly.

Use leash on all rods, especially on the paddle.

Store and tie down everything that is possible before going out and coming in.

Start with low-cost rods and reels.

wear PFD.

Have safety radio.

Do not go out at night alone.

Just a few tip I can think now.

Tight lines.
