Save everybody the hassle 🙄
Just cause it say 8 blank and 8 tip doesn't mean it will fit. Wasted time is money 💰 in the world 🌎 of survival

Inspired by the movie 🎬 flight ✈️ of the phenix.....
Can you guess the name of the blank.....if only I could get a factory decal from the seller or manufacturer
Saying the name and model number and weight they said they don't have any.....highly pissed Kind of stupid putting a beautiful decal at the base of the rod it was destroyed trying to move and reuse maybe I should have used a heat gun first. 🔫 Not into buying a label maker and a cheesy decal Good thing you can identify the blank by the the diamond pattern lamination

The secret formula------
My numbers after a static deflection test.
Guides are stiff spots in the blank, which take away from the action of the blank. It came down to one Guide 10 or 11 so I went with 11 just to be safe from line hitting blank its a tuna bait rod away.

Using the boat rail for leverage and a powerful reel that can crank them in
Is cool and of course the arm pit technique
But is there anything funner then bouching on a big yellowtail with a butt plate and an almost 10ft rod bent double 😁 For the noob I've had my share of sled rides.

I like your choice of tips
I hate the tips that have wire support on the back side of the ferrules -- It serves to hook and abraid the line(design flaw). Have wrapped a few dozen rods over the years, and never had a mismatched tip. Most stores will match test it out before they sell it to you, and often find the rod spline and fasten it on for free to prevent the wrapper from messing up. Mud Hole has a pretty good selection, but usual at full list prices. Looks like an expensive Pheonix blank. Blank # ? Show it off when you get it finished.

John are you talking about the tang tip
It gets covered with thread you don't even no it's there
I know you don't need it but it's seem like alittle more staying power once rapped with thread and flexcoat

Just for you John.....
With out flexcoat it shows all the flaws that flexcoat hides my colors, that purple and gold is a high school thing

As far spine goes
Carpenter stuff crown up casting guides on top
Spinning rod guides on bottom Finding the spine is the fun part, just roll with it. 👌

Tip clarification
The tip in the middle (similar to the one you used) is the style I prefer. The other two are the type I described in my earlier post.
The flaw with the tips on the ends is that one's line can get damaged on the wire support while on the middle tip, there is nothing to snag the line if it rolls off the back side of the rod. The top rod in the photo is a slow pitch jigging rod that was given to me. Imagine jigging in 600ft of water with 14lb braid, and having the line caught on the back side as a large fish hits -- no bueno. I like the high school colors over the other ones. A little time on the grinder will help with getting the guide feet smoothed out so that the wrapping will go easier. The under wraps look ok. Regarding the overwrap - Maybe you made it deliberately that way, but IMHO, it would look nicer if the threads were smoothed out by rubbing a round dowel or pencil over them. Flexcoat can be tempermental stuff -- Good luck. |

Wow I see your point on that tip top
Ya I didn't want to grind the guides they looked flat to me and I flatten the rap out with a butter knife before i put the flexcoat on. I used d thread the thickest for saltwater
Seriously all I see is a solid blue color with two coats of flexcoat. Here's a picture of a rod that done, it's good enough for me. If I would change anything I would make the first A rap smaller or use b thread so the resin doesn't penetrate on the blank so much for rewrapping purposes. I will be dead when that time comes. I know for a fact from having to rewrap old poles some of the guides strip easy and never came loose fighting a fish making easy strip of the blank. And other rods to much resin makes it hard you have to scrap and sand blank to get it smooth and sanding a blank will make it more flexible than the original wt rating.
