Your post reminds me of one of the big Kayaks I worked on......
We would regularly wear out ten 3/4" wire cargo runners during the course of a discharge using the ship's union purchase gear. I would order the spare runners with the machine-swaged splices on both ends as they are stronger than a manual splice. Your tool looks more like a crimper than a swager. If we did need an eye splice, we would do a Liverpool. If we were in a hurry, we would use U-clips or do a molly hogan splice. |

Ya I don't plan on doing any lifting
But strong enough to keep a crook from pulling it apart.

Swager is a crimping tool
Just a big pair of crushing pliers.
$85 swager crimping tool 5/16

It's just a cable lock
You can just smash the aluminum ferrules with a hammer if you want, but not as fun as crushing them.

That with a chain and padlock should do the trick to keep someone from walking off with your kayak? On the above ship, we would use 1/2" wire straps like that wrapped through the bites of the mooring lines to prevent thieves from stealing them during visits to Africa, Sth and Central America, and the Far East.
Salaverry, Peru was the worst. Even with the straps in place, 3 hired security guards, and the crew's vigilance, the local fisherman manage to steal hawsers during 2 different port visits. |

Do not attempt this unless you have a strong
Vise. I probably straighten crimp pieces 4 or 5 times
And they are still usable. Some may say why go thru all the hassle when you can buy so cheap on Amazon. I say why go thru the hassle of making a cheese 🧀 burger 🍔 when you can buy so cheap at half a dozen different places 😅 Both are time spent wisely 😌 Idle hands ✋️ lead to the work of the devil 🤘 😈 👏 🙌
