Also curious if anyone has done it without an outboard, or if that is a must? |

The guys that have made that conversion here in Florida, have done it for the added stability when using a motor. When they are fishing without the motor, on a PA, Most of them take the ama off. The PA14 has a ton of space relative to any other kayak. There is one guy that keeps the alma on, but he is fishing out of a Revo. It works well here in SE Florida because we typically have super small surf. Even when there is a big storm in the Atlantic, it gets mostly blocked by the lee created by the Bahamas. Guys in other parts of Florida use them primarily in sheltered waters. I ordered the parts to make the conversion at the beginning of the summer and am still waiting for them It's for calm weather use.
