Bunch of my Kayak/Fishing buddies could only fish till noon. And one wanted to show us his tricks to fish the bay.... So he rented a Skiff at the Pavilion.
Basically his rig is a drop-shot rig with a Lead-Head at the bottom and 30" above that is a hook with a plastic jig hooked thru the nose. Note: using very small Lead-Head hook and small hook above. These are fish All caught on the SAME Rig on 6# line. We fished from the bait receiver all the way to Balboa bridge. Good luck. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

During low tide I fish near the buoy line, docks, in the middle of the harbor, maybe near the bait receiver. If the water is really moving at high tide I've had good luck between the moorings by the lifeguard station. I like shad colored swimbaits on 1/2 oz heads fished off the bottom or near the bottom.

Ive had good luck with 3" swimbaits of various colors. Beginner mistake I made and learned from others here is a super slow retrieval. Live bait is now available so get a scoop. If your going this weekend, as I am Sat watch out for the wind as its showing 8-10mph outside of break wall, so gonna be a little windy in harbor. Good luck!

Thanks for all the advice me and my son had a great time out there everything was caught on artificial 3 inch big hammers or Berkley gulp
6 pretty big spotties and one short halibut about 20in son had a blast first time catching a halibut so all-in-all was great day wish I could have stayed longer but you know how that goes learning curve way different than MDR or Redondo or the sewer but was great can't wait to get back out there and I wish I could just find a Malibu two XL so my son can go kayaking with me |
