Depends on your back and your ride.

I have to be honest i love my PA12 but the weight is just horrible i would trade it for an outback on a drop of a dime, a trailer is a must for a pro angler in my opinion.

Love my PA 12 weight is not that bad. Transport it in the back of my Tacoma. After loading and unloading a few time you learn how to move it. The way I see it is you move it only about 10 minutes an outing your ass sits in it for hours might as well be in the most comfortable ride.

From what I can tell the OB is a more versatile kayak but definitely not a Cadillac ride. The PA is a barge, but once you get it in the water it's nice. The weight on it is an issue for transport and the if the drive breaks have fun paddling back.

PA 14 or nothing you weaklinks
It is heavy and better when you have a fishing buddy but I've managed by myself. Totally worth the speed and space onboard

I don't think you can't go wrong with either. The pa has more storage than the OB.
I love my OB. Storage can be improved with the square hatch . Easy for me to lift and drag through sand. And OB s are permitted on the islander San Clemente island trips. A must do for all kayakers at least 1x. |

Ok. Sounds like you need an outback and a pro angler. That's the compromise. The outback is more versatile for sure. But just go spend a day on the water in a pro angler. They are a little slower. But not much. And if your drive breaks, have some extra parts in hand to fix it. they require basic maintenance and can fail. But it doesn't happen very often. Extra mast, fin, chain set, wrench, vicegrips, pin, ring, and some zip ties and you should be good. Or just find an old v2/v1 driveand keep it with you. It's probably about the same cost as having the parts. Either way your time is valuable, your already on the water might as well be prepared.

Storage Storage Storage. Thats what I love about my PA14. Yes its heavy, its not horrible. In the water it is just as fast and maneuverable as my sons Compass. I just like the fact that everything has a place and I still have plenty of room to fish.

The new Compass seems to be doing well in the market. I'm actually looking at that as an eventual replacement for my "ok, but not exactly what I want" Ride 135.
