The elite chirp is older but I would consider it a better unit then the hook.

Avoid the Hook series if you can afford it. Nothing but issues from an other-than-that very reliable brand.
I just got a Raymarine Dragonfly 7pro that should be arriving tonight. I was in the 600ish range and thats the unit I went with... |

I was reading on here that alot of people had problems with the hook series actually. So the next step up is th elite.series and no issues with those

Also, the elite series has side scan right? Im on a 17 PA 14 and the side scan transducer is larger than others isnt it

Hope you didn't pay that much, I see the DF7 Pro w/Navionics currently for $453. I may upgrade my DF6 this year to the bigger screen.

Glad someone posted this as I too was looking into this for an upgrade to my Garmin Striker 4. Guess Im going to have to save up more $$$ for elite series.

YES it is, but fits the Lawrance ready yaks, also BERLEY PRO makes a transducer mount/shield tha works well and fits the hobies that are lawreace ready, you might check it out. Tight Lines.
