West Aussie Adventure's 4: Beluga's Bombie
Shorty was the first to hook up, with his old buddy Mr Pike! Nice of them to finally catch up, tho i think Shorty was a little to keen to take it to the next level, and Pikey shot thru at the first sign of a pucker up from Shorty! Here we sat untill just after 6.30, when i decided after a few tentative nibbles, to try another spot. I mosied over to the newly recognised Beluga's Bombie, and anchored there for a bit. Here Matty manages to land himself a nice little Pinky whilst at anchor on a cast and retrieve lure! Again i decided to move right down the line of terrain untill i hit the shipping channel, and threw on a few of my hardbody lures,as the sun was well and truly up by this stage, i thought it was time to try something different. I cruised all the way up the reefy dropoff, passed the gimungous flotilla of Malibu's, and WHAMMO!!!!!!!!!!!! A massive hit on my 10lb outfit, as the hardbody lure is smashed by something substantial. For a good 10mins i work this fish in, thumping headshakes, and strong powerful runs stink of Snapper. The pedals of the Hobie help me in my battle, retrieving line by chasing down the fish, untill at last, a golden hue emanates from the water as i see colour on what must be a fairly hefty fish. Then disaster, almost within gaff shot, it drops the lure, and my heart sinks. So i swear, scream, spit and grumble my way back up towards Matts Patch. Once there i tie on a second "special" lure, and head back toward the Atlantic Malibu Fleet. Just short of the group, BBBZZZZZZZZZZZZZ away screams the TLD15, and my sexy new Stren line is heading of the reel at a rapid rate. Then my second rod goes off too!!!!! STRUTH!!!!! i double juggle untill i realise the second lure is attached to the line on my TLD, so i somehow manage to get the lure within reach, and bite it off the leader and stow it. Back to the fight, and its a replica of the first hit! Slow and steady pressure this time brings a Pink shimmering Trophy within gaff shot, and he's aboard!!!!!!! I scream out in elation, as you guys know, it's been a while coming. A great 80cm Pinky is now safetly stowed in my fish bag, and i'm done. I return to the Gaggle of X's and discover Jutto has scored a ripper pinky too, edging mine out by a cm, he did stretch his tho!! So Myself, Jutto and Leachy head through the 2ft chop, and 15knot headwind back to shore, chuckling maniacally as we go about our captures, leaving Matty, and the Northern Crew out there looking to pick up some pink bits for themselves! Do i look happy!? Blooded my Yak, in style! So it was an unforgettable day, one i wont forget in a hurry!! I'm really starting to see what makes these fish hit lures, and perfecting my technique. Looking forward to doing some more trolling out there, it's reall what the Hobies are built for! Thanx to all that showed up today, Jutto, Shorty, Leachy (Welcome!), and the lunch time crew in Matt, Karl, Colin and Glenn. It's great to see so many guys out there and enjoying it, really makes it the special sport it is!! http://siteground137.com/~kayakfi1/i...4c9f3b86674c5f Kayak Fishing Western Australia

Shufoys becoming the trolling guru for Snapper here, a month ago we would have never thought it possible, theres only two ways folks ever fish for them in Western Australia,,anchor and berley or drift with baits near the bottom,,,,
I got a nice one the other day,,next time i will BBQ my Snapper or learn to fillet better,,,mine looked like a pigs breakfast after i finished Heres myself with my first Snapper and Shufoy the trolling guru 2 miles off the point on dusk. (The Hobies seem well suited to trolling,,Shufoy can have a beer,,yak on the phone or pick his nose if he wants )

Hey Fellas could you post any pics of the lures you like to use?
I make my own lures, and plan to start selling them soon, so I am interested what your fish like to hit in WA! It's research and development. Great posts by the way, good to see you all doing well out there. Cheers! Willy |
