LJ 2/25 - Nothing but bait

Trying to get better about posting, so figured I would give a conditions report from LJ yesterday.

Hit the water at 6:15 just as the sun was hitting the water. Launch was manageable, just had to accept getting wet. Wasn't much time between the swells and it was messy.

Wind was off shore in the early AM, but died a few hours later making way for a few hours of perfect conditions.... if only the fish agreed. Water was in the 58s and once the sun came out, surface temps hit the low 59s. Made bait quickly just outside the reserve, making 10 greenbacks in about 5 minutes. As fishing has been very slow, I just wanted to cover ground trolling a mac in the mid-water to bottom zone. Trolled all the way to the South LJ reserve and back for no love.

Current was ripping south, made it to near the South LJ reserve in an hour and a half, took much longer to work back up current. The kelp is making a comeback, but the current was so strong it couldn't make it above 10-20 ft in most areas. Didn't see much if any on the surface. Water was green, with 5-8 ft vis, and lots of junk (eel grass, kelp, etc.) floating about.

Off the water by 1:30 with only bait to show for it. Didn't see any hook-ups or hear anything big over the radio (some guys were fishing for bass and doing okay).

always good to hear what is going on out there. That is the kind of current that usually gets em chewing!

Thanks for a great report, sorry to hear the fish didn’t cooperate. Weather looks nice, though.
That South current can be brutal for paddlers like ourselves, especially if a strong North wind is blowing in your face, been there done that.
