North Laguna Beach

I'm sure someone has fished this spot. If you have, how is it/is it worth giving it a go?

Sure dozens of times before 2009. Now it is in the Laguna MPA. You can fish N of Abalone point now but not the coves (Emerald off to the L) pictured. Two more coves to the N and youre good.

MPA....

Is this liberalism gone nuts, or does it have a documented positive impact? Seems to me the be pretty superfluous considering the fishing regulations and controls already in place. Also seems to me to be a way to control what people do.

I dont know. perhaps I am just being pissy today.

We asked those questions nearly a decade ago.
Total railroad job.

Thanks for the insight. I figured there had to be a reason I haven't seen many fisherman out that way. If you don't mind sharing, where would you launch from if you were going to fish the area?

Fishermans Cove/boat canyon was the launch. From there you could reach Reef Point to the N and Aliso to the S.

The good old days...
Remember the fishing & tackle stores in Laguna?
Buying bait is not a crime...but fishing is.

I can imagine it being that bad down there. I haven't been through that part of town for a while, but it was headed that way 15 years ago. Did you coin the "buying bait is not a crime?" That needs to be on a shirt if it isn't already!
