5/18 stinky skunk

Got a late (for new) launch at 0630 this morning. Had a helluva time trying to make bait. Ended up with only one Spanish... Others reported making bait was hard but did much better than me. Not sure if seeing schools of bait on screen and being unable to catch them is better.

Slow trolled for several hours with nothing. Ended up coming in around 11 and practicing launch and landing. Had a few good would-be yard sales. Takes to a few guys coming in. Only saw one Yt

Hi Geno,
I feel your pain. I have done 3 trips from Ventura down to LJ, fished 2 of the 4 days I'm down on each trip for nada. 0 for 6. I appreciate you posting your dry spell. I was going crazy over it. We don't get as much action up my way. The guys that go out first trip and load up just kill me. I been putting in major time.

The El Nino has been spoiling fisherman and making the novice look like experts!

Me being the novice went double, blank, double, and then 6 consecutive skunks. You go from never needing guide for the tricks because you know everything to knowing nothing and asking for a guide's number.

Crazy hobby we have here.

How do you guys manage the wind? My barge goes flying in even light breezes so it's hard to do anything other than head straight into the wind without trolling pretty fast...

Sometimes I just paddle to stay more or less in one spot if it's where I want to be. I like to think of it as heaving-to, but with a paddle instead of a sail to match the drift with thrust.

You're on that canoe thing, right? You're probably just gonna blow around a lot. I blow around a lot on the Malibu, and I would imagine the canoe is much worse. Probably just something you're going to have to deal with.

Dry Spells?

Everybody has em!

Sooner or later they will end...at least that's what we all keep on telling ourselves...

June and July will be great! I promise!
