Everingham Bros. Bait Price Increase
http://www.baitbarge.com/bait-prices.html I heard on the water they were talking about raising the price from $10 to $20. That's a pretty steep price increase. |

bait price
Just went last week and fished around newport harbor. I have a hobie bait tank and it cost me $10 for about a scoop of anchovies.

June 1st, have not heard about kayak scoop, but am guessing it will go up to $15. Everingham Bros is one of our HOW supporting sponsors. I will check in with them and find out what the "scoop" is.

All I can say is the $10 scoop I got put in my Malibu Stealth 14 at the San Pedro bait receiver (San Pedro Bait Co.) and the scoop I received from the Quivara Basin bait receiver (Everingham Bros.) were like night and day.
Truthfully, I think Mike (San Pedro) gave me too many... many died off cause too crowded...

Get ready to pay $20 for a kayak scoop come June 1st. The kayak scoop is something done low key............a boater could never pull up and say just give me a kayak scoop, I do not need much. It has been a pretty cool thing to offer that is not advertised at all. I'd hoped for $15, but $20 has been decided. Guys working the barge almost always ask me if it is enough and give me an additional dip, so maybe go in on bait and divide after if you don't think you will need 20-25 sardines.

I've never had a problem with the price or customer service at any of their barges but a 100% price increase is a pretty big jump. There are a lot of boaters with small tanks that can't accommodate a half scoop and are going to have the same problem as kayak fisherman. Why not offer a 1/4 scoop appropriately priced? Just don't take it out on the guys at the barge. They likely had nothing to do with it. Tip them well and they will take care of you. More often than not they share the most up to date info and tell me to come back if I need more bait.

First price increase in 8 years...........sometimes it comes down to raise prices or go out of business.

I would pay $15 plus tip but $20 is too much for a small kayak scoop, unless there's a tournament happening. Mission barge didn't give out enough bait to split, but Dana Point does. I would split it from Dana or just spend an hour making my own bait after the change.

Dude at the Dana barge was quite confident in telling me today that kayak scoops there were not changing in price.

From the good guys that work on the DP barge (names withheld) - the cost of a kayak scoop will remain $10.
BTW, have you noticed that there are always TWO guys now working the barge? Seems some bozo boater got on the barge a while back, fell between the openings, broke his leg, and is suing the company. Easy to guess where that additional revenue will be going...

What do you do if you want sardines and don't want to pay? Paddle out and throw a net around? Will 'dines hit the sabiki?

As far as I can recall I've only bought bait twice in the last 3-5 years.
About 99% of the time its easy to make so why not catch your own? Throw in a Sabiki 500 and your bait catching percentage will up to 99.999%
