Lowrance elite 5 hdi ?

The down scanner only work in shallow water? I was out fishing yesterday and notice my sonar picking up structures but not the down scanner.
I was fishing from 170-230 feet of water. Is this the norm?
I have the 83/200 transducer.

Seems normal to me. 185 is the deepest I have seen it read on the Elite. Some claim a bit better than that but I'm skeptical of those claims.

Thanks Rossman -
going to try 170' and under. In the bay it worked great but that was only 10-30 feet of water. Another words.. don't use the down scan fishing in deeper water.

It's really meant for fresh water and lake fishing. I've had mine over a year and it just doesn't fit my needs. I will be getting rid of it soon.
