Rockfish Open - Newport Harbor

As you all know Rockfish season opens soon. That's exciting since I have never fished for rockfish from my kayak and frankly I am over chasing the winter Calico Bass in Malibu.

So I am here humbly asking if anyone in this awesome Community would be willing to buddy up and take me out of Newport Harbor for some Rockfish.

I am not really familiar with that area, but I can hold my own when it comes to long paddles and fishing. I'll gladly supply the beer if anyone is willing to show me around.

I was thinking first Saturday after the opener March 5th.

Tight Lines!

What is it's typical load for such trips?

If its an overnight boat probably around 40. I usually fish on weekdays so the number of people on the boat is pretty low.

Ok thanks. Yeah, weekdays would be a must with that weekend load.

It's a 60 passenger boat, with 46 bunks. Overnighters and offshore trips are limited to about 40 passengers (leaves a few bunks for the crew). Great boat and crew for sure. As of yesterday there were only 12 spots available so this is going to be a full 40 passenger trip for the rockfish opener next week... not ideal but not horrible either!

I was wrong about the passenger count - it was limited to 30 anglers! We killed it out there, had to be 400 - 500 fish bagged.
