La Jolla report 2-16

Finally go out to La Jolla after completing a s--t load of honey do's.
Launched at 0530 to very small surf. Made bait easily at first light and started fishing a 3 way swivel rig with a greenback in 120' of water.
No action till 0800 when it felt like my line was snagged on the bottom. Started pull it up and I thought I had a chunk of kelp. Half way up I felt the head shakes but this fish was coming up with very little fight. Got to color fairly quickly and saw it was a keeper halibut. Gaffed her in the stomach and it took off and ripped the gaff out of the stomach and headed for the bottom. I worked her back fairly easily and stuck the gaff in her head this time, got the game clip on and cut her throat, Game over. No other action for the rest of the day. Off the water a 1300

She weighed in at 19.6 gutted and bled.

Yanni I'm using the head and carcass to make the fish soup you told me about and also making those fish meatballs you posted the other day.
Thanks for the recipes

Good one Sven. BTW it ain't game over til those bastards are in pieces in a freezer bag. Up til then they may just be playing possum.

Sven,

What a catch!!! Smart play on the halibut by not losing
your cool!

I'm honored that you're using FishermansBelly's recipes.

Here's what it could look like when you're creating your stock.

I was too busy to go out and fish today. But, soon our remodel will be done, and Fishermansbelly.com will have a new website. Which will include a new
halibut soup recipe with chunks of halibut and baby octopus. Stay tuned.
