Upcoming Cattle Boats

Apologies for the non-kayak related posted but wanted to get the opinion of you guys on two different cattle boats I am looking at doing in a few weeks.

Option 1:
Point Loma Sportfishing
Departure Date: Feb. 12
Boat: Dominator
Type: Baja Coast
Length: 1.5 days

Option 2:
Seaforth Landing
Departure Date: Feb. 13
Boat: San Diego
Type: Coronado Islands
Length: 3/4 day

So, is the 1.5 day even worth it this time of year? Or should I just go with the 3/4 day out of Seaforth. Thanks for any input on this. Appreciate it.

1.5 day is just kill'n it on the yellows down at colnett. I would go for that if I were you. Good news is that if you guys fail to get the yellows, there will be plenty of rockfish to catch.

Out of these two options, I'd recommend the San Diego. Better crew. Easier parking. More consistent results. Most importantly, they have RSW to keep your fish fresh. No other 3/4 has that. The pacific queen has been running 1.5 day trips to collnett and killing it though, so that might be a better call.

You can't beat the San Diego though, if there are YT at the islands you can be sure they will find them.

Its risky both ways, spend the extra money and chance the yellows are still around down past Ensenada.

OR

Go the cheap route and chance the yellows want to chew at the islands.

Tough call but from the things I've heard about that Ensenada- Colnett area I would go with that.

And the Dominator is a great boat.

What he said! I stopped by the tackle shop a week ago and the kid working there is on the boats a LOT, and he said the 1.5 day trips is what you want. He said the 3/4 day boats that were getting yellows were rats. I was only curious because I was planning a 3/4 with a bunch of guys from work, but nobody has passports

It may apply this time of the year, but parking at Seaforth is usually better and it is free.

Between the three landings, Point Loma parking is a big problem.

Unfortunately I am only able to do a trip on President's day weekend (Feb. 12-15), otherwise I'd look into the Eclipse Feb 18-21.

Thanks for all the input guys. Looks like I should go for the 1.5 day leaving on the 12th.
