Sculpin has been closed for the past couple of years January-March, for boat based anglers of course. Too bad that fish went to waste, and your lucky they didn't write you up for it....

Sculpin closed ?

I read it on the website too, if you look at 976-Tuna everyone is catching Sculpin.

How is this possible then?

Lucky indeed that DFG was nice. I seen also rockfish were caught on 976 reports but how are they keeping it when the season closes? Does commercial operated boat has more fishing privilege than we do on rockfish?

There was a 1.5 day that went out to Mexico and some late reports for fish caught in 2015 but posted after the new year.

It's funny how the regulations updated Jan 1st 2016 says "closed to boat based anglers as of Sept 1st, 2015, and expected to re-open April 15th, 2016".Then 3 days later, on the 4th, they say "open to boat based anglers Jan 1st, 2016 to Aug 31, 2016". So it looks like it is in fact open now, and they were just a little delayed in their updating the 2016 regs.

maybe you are thinking of rockfish? sculpin opened up jan 1 2015 (last year). that is when local sport boats switch from rockfish to sculpin.

3/4 day boats fish mexico more often than not, especially during the first couple months of the year. No closure on rockfish there.

You left this part out:

"we also asked them to board the monte carlo because it felt unfair that we had to toss ours back.. but they busted some boat and were dishing out some major fines when the monte carlo snuck through so they never got checked."

Apparently we did miss something there....

Who the fuck knows whats open and whats closed these days...apparently not even the DFG...the rules and seasons are changing so much at any given time. I guess the dfg website doesn't know either...
