LJ fall Halibut tips needed

Planning on targeting halibut off LJ in my kayak this coming thursday but not sure where to start. Any tips will be greatly appreciated! I've fished for halibut in the bays and know the basics: rigs, line, lures, bait, bottom structure, ect but I've never fished for them in the open ocean. Anyone know what the ideal water depth for halibut would be during this time of year? I've never fished for halibut in more than 20ft so how much weight should I be using in deeper water? Lastly, which general area is a good place to target halibut? Im not asking nor want to know where your secret spots are but which direction would be a good bet to set off in? North or west of the pier, straight out of the launch, outside/inside of the kelp, around the point, ect. I was thinking about trying between blacks beach and the pier. Thanks for the help guys, my back/ legs will be thanking you!
