Tidelands 4-11 evening
Fish just outside the sailboats for a couple short bites, nothing sticks, decide to go out to the channel and let the wind take me south. Was fairly consistent picking up spotties on the deadstick. Decide to make a move, time to try for Mr. Grumpy in a secret spot (hint: between 18-19, 1 mile south). Drift over the spot, for 30 seconds or so...SLAM...(on the Gulp shrimp). Couple of looks at the yak and hes back down again, couple mins later comes up for the final time, gaff shot, in the boat. This guy was a hoot on 6 lb. The wind laid down nicely, and it was glass everywhere. On the way in, decide to snap a couple purdey pictures of the sun going down over the bridge, while amazed at how good these camera phone pictures turn out. Man I love San Diego. Was debating to put the picture up with my ugly mug on it, hope it doesnt offend anyone...hahaha. Nice way to wrap up the week. Cant wait to bbq him tomorrow |

She was 12 lbs exactly. The New Penny 3" Gulp was the only thing that got hit all evening. That and the fact that it was the setup that had 6 lb fluoro. Makes a big difference using the lighter line. I fished 8lb on the other rods I got 1 short bite, thats it. Definetly convinced of using the lightest stuff possible in the bay. Considering hitting it again this evening once the gazillion sailboats go home. Probly 4:30ish to 7:30ish.
Fiance is out of town for baby shower, gotta get as much as I can while shes gone, I hate chores . Evan |

Nice. I think the 6lb. made all the difference. I fished the bay last week
with 8lb and only got a couple. Compared to the spectra and fluoro I've been using at LJ, the 8lb. was soooo thin. |

I've always been a fan of using the lightest tackle I can get away with, especially in the bay. I've got two 4# baitcasting setups, but usually use the 6#. Good job and thanks for the report!
