Matlahuayl SMR?

If you fish in about 140' in front of "the condo" at La Jolla Shores, are you violating this Matlahuayl Reserve? I always see people fishing there, but looking at the DFG .pdf map (http://www.californiampas.org/pages/...ahuaylsmr.html) it looks like the western boundary of this stupid reserve goes out all the way to the tip of the point.

Not sure, but don't know why you would want to fish there anyway. There are no fish in La Jolla.

Maybe you got the wrong condo? Try the one down the street. Don't knock, just come in.

The Condo that most people talk about is the high rise building that is both West and South of the building you see in the reserve picture. West being the direction of concern.

Fair enough . I don't know the guy, but just from reading some of his reports, he sure looks like he knows what he's doing. I got a 5' shark last Sunday and one pulled hook, but I know that doesn't count. Nice sleigh ride and anticipation though! Any thoughts on what it could have been? Wasn't a leopard, looked like maybe a small maco? Not really sure what's out there. Obviously cut him loose.

Most common are leopards and smoothhounds.

Hooked into something insane at county line months back. Silbaugh was there. Reel screamed like it was hooked to a race car for about 8 secs. Was drop looping the bottom with a Mac in about 140'. Snapped the 40 lb mono like it was dental floss, 6 feet up the leader. My guess was thresher. Never know what you're gonna get....

More likely a Soupfin or Blue Shark. Leopards would be easy to tell the difference, and Smoothhounds are rarely that large.

Thanks for the info. It was better fishing this Saturday - 24 lb yellow by 10:30 on the flyline with a greenback in about 150' just north of the point. Man, the kelp is all gone, hope it won't effect the fishing too much this season, but realistically it can't be too good.
