Cabo Kayak Options

Heading to Cabo in three weeks, Would like to get out on a yak if the winds are down. But who knows about that.

Anyone done the yak fishing thing off Cabo?

Also what are shore options for fishing along that stretch. We are staying along the pacific side, so would be nice if possible to cast along the beach there.

Shore fishin on the Pac side is great but its a lot more surfy. Youll need to clear some waves.

Cabo yak rental is limited. They are based on the lowest common denominator tourist w no range. The have patrols on 'skis making sure you dont stray. An hour up to east cape will get you fishing kayaks and free reign. Your hotel/resort may have them and you may be able to negotiate your skill level but rod holders may be scarce.

Regardless youre stoked. Just make the best of it.

You won't find much around Cabo or up towards Todos Santos, and it's almost all bone breaking shorebreak unless you hit a lull. I think Rancho Leonero on the East Cape will have something you can use....and if the wind is down you can easily launch from there. The reef right off the place has fish and you can go out a bit further and hit pelagics. I've never kayaked it but used to go out there in a boat from Los Barilles. You are right around Easter madness....if you want to rent one you'd better reserve it.

There are no decent fishing kayaks in Cabo San Lucas, well at least not easily found. I have used a guide for shore fishing Pacific side, you will need a good 12 ft rod with a good spinning reel to get past the waves. You basically run out with the outgoing wave and cast and then run like hell back up the beach before the surf drags you in. It is pretty gnarly sometimes, don't turn your back to the waves ever. Are you looking to fish on a boa/panga as well? I'll be down the starting 4/5 and will be fishing with Jaime on his panga Jessica
