Coochiemudlo island Brisbane Australia

We had a 6am start today, myself, my eldest daughter Khe-sanh (3yrs old) biggles and almost a dozen of the boys from the AKFF.

We all started out together, but I broke away from the main group as the boys were heading out through the main channel and to the reefs beyond in search of some of those big snapper that red has been catching.

I kept reasonbly close to the island, and away from the channel for safety's sake carrying my daughter on board, and fished (my kid fished ) around some of the weedbeds, rocky points and the moored boats.

Khe-sanh caught her very first fish (some sort of sweetlip) on her very first outing on any kind of vessel. Not only that, but she brought the first fish ever over the side of the Xfactor - I felt very proud.

She caught two other fish of the same species not too long after, and I got myself two little undersize bream. We were only soaking some prawns over the side to keep things simple, although I did take the plastics rod out but never even ended up rigging it.

We pulled up on the island beach and built some sand castles together, went exploring, and collected some sea shells to take home to mum.

I decided to leave around 10am as the sun was getting a bit hot (although my kid wanted to keep fishing ) and I didnt want to get either of us sunburnt and wear the reprocussions that would come with it once we got home

I never got a chance to say hoo roo to everyone as they were all too far out (sorry fella's), but I hope they all got amongst some good snapper.

Very cool James, there is nothing better than watching them overcome that "whopper" on the other end of the line

Sweeeet!!! Nothing like fishing with the kid. I can still see my daughters face when she caught her first fish. Absolutely priceless. A vouple of more years and I will be able to take the grandson fishing.

Looks warm where you are.

Nice!

East coast of Australia is on our destination list. I may be getting in touch when I make it there.

I think I know that snapper. Is it all nice and silvery when you catch it, and then within seconds it gets these dark spots?? It freaked me out.

G'day mate,

make sure you do. There is a spare bunk at my place if you need it, plenty of water within an hours drive in any direction, and plenty of beer in the fridge.

yes I agree. I was very nervous at first taking her out so young in a kayak for the first time, but the X is probably one of the safest yaks for taking kids out on. The stability and size of it made both of us very comftorable and has left her tugging at my arm every day since asking when the next trip out is going to be
