For an extra 150 more you might as well get an hds 5 and never have to worry about it again.

Spend a little more, cry a little less

I went and checked out the lowrance today after work at west marine. It's 8x better then what I have now. It's more then I want to spend and I'll have to mount the transducer different then what I have now. It's on sale till the 6th so I have a couple days to grind on this.

U won't regret it. I went with the either the dsi or HDI unit. Me not knowing which one should speak volumes. Traded that one in to west marine with their fantastic warranty and they let me get the HDS with cash on top. Incredible sonar. Last u will ever need when yak fishing.

I think the HDS has a bunch of overkill stuff for a kayak like networking, engine fuel economy, radar, satellite radio.. bunch of add-on stuff. But if it's a good price then it should be a sweet FF. That one linked above at WM on sale looks like a great price.

Love the mapping feature of the HDS but not sure I would use it more than a better bottom and sonar image.
