Probably because you need the structure scan transducer. You got an HDS 7 touch?

You're right. If the connector fits then you can select the 83kHz but that only gives you deep water sonar. It will not be very usefull in the range that we fish usually 65 to 300 feet deep. The 83 transducer is for deep water like 400+ to 1000+ feet. The range you need for the usefull angle cone width is 200 kHz for waters usually down to 400 feet. That is for normal sonar there is no DSI signal without the 455/800 kHz transducer. The beauty of the HDI is the unit can display both to give you a much more 3D type of view. The short answer is it works but only as sonar with a narrow angle cone, therefore not a very good picture in shallower water. My $0.02

You need an HDI transducer to run downscan. It needs to be 4 frequencies. I recommend the 50/200/455/800

The size of the cone is due to the frequency of the transducer not the setting on the unit. The setting on the unit is to match up the signal from the transducer so it can give you an accurate picture.

Ok so the 83 is the wide and 200 is narrow so the combination of the two is the sonar combining a picture of both cones? So both frequencies are being sent out

I don't have that sounder but know that the hdi ducer will work with any blue connector sounder. the di part will only work with the elite-7 and hds touch series.
It is probably a setting. Did you select the proper transducer in the set up menu? |

200 will give more detail. 83 will have more coverage. If you are fishing in say 80 ft. with the 83/200 split screen and you drop your sabki down you would likely only see it on the 83 side of the screen. Now that may not make sense but unless you fish with no currant or wind the jig will be out of the 200 cone. I use the 200 setting for lake and bay fishing. Eli |
