The coloring looks like that of a sculpin, but its way too fat to be one.

X2 Sculpin. I'd say that based on the fins, the coloring, and coming off the bottom at that depth Sculpin would be my guess.

angler!@ I've kept many in my aquarium. Those fins are like legs they walk/scoot with them.

Didn't see any teeth and was very "mushy" to the touch. Fish sent back to bottom and released unharmed? I hope.

No way! Pulled something that looked Like this in the water in 250 feet water while fishing for lingcod. It broke off once it surfaced. No one could tell what it was but it pulled hard.
