Newport pattys day rockstravaganza

Got a bunch of mixed reports from some fellow members I saw coming in from the rock fish grounds yesterday so i decided to go out and see for myself. Are my spots getting picked off??? Let's see.....

Got out there at about sunrise. Little chop but not bad and the current was very manageable.

got out to the spot and first drop pulled up this fish. I.d. On this anyone? Had some pretty colors

next drop brought up 2 whitefish. Shiiiit, hope my spot isn't dead. Moved out about 10' deeper and did a pass of another one of my spots and started getting hits. 45 minutes later it was time to call it a day.

Ended up with a great haul of quality taco meat. All chunks, but the highlight was a huge bacaccio that had my light tackle bass setup pinned to the side of my kayak.

I think it's a whitefish. Very good eating.

That's great. It looks like you did really good. That's enough taco meat for a large party. Well done Will.

If this is whitefish then the other fish were croaker. I've been told that whitefish look a lot like croaker so I assumed the fish I was pulling in was whitefish. So this is a whitefish huh? I always release if I'm not sure on I.d.

Yummm!
Sounds like I needed to move around and find "the" spot and drift over.
It was my first Rockfishing at NPH and looking forward to go out soon.
It was nice meeting you yesterday!

Nice haul. And that first is definitely a Whitefish. The croaker were possibly Tom Cod.

Nice to catch up with you again. My brother and I spoke with you while you were loading you Yak. I appreciate the info you gave me for LaJolla. I plan on heading down there next month for a 2 day fishing trip. I will certainly follow your advice.
I will hit you up next time we hit Newport. Fish on Brother!

Was gonna go yesterday but my boss gave me a late call the night before to work the whale watching trips on the Patriot on sunday. I'll definitely be going this sunday, its been too long off the kayak, haven't been since december. Maybe i'll see ya out there.
